The prepackaged magnesium anode consists of a cast magnesium anode placed centrally in a cloth bag, filled with a highly hygroscopic backfill made up of a mix of 75% gypsum, 20% bentonite, and 5% sodium sulfate. This assembly is typically enclosed in a plastic bag or paper outer lining for shipping purposes, which must be removed before installation.
The efficiency of the anode can be improved by using this depolarizing backfill during packaging. The specialized mixture helps reduce anode-to-soil resistance, facilitating the smooth flow of electrical current to the intended structure.
Our magnesium anode is crafted with the cable and joints sealed using epoxy resin. Engineered to meet the high-speed and high-efficiency demands of construction projects, these prepackaged magnesium anodes are commonly employed for the cathodic protection of buried metallic structures in various soil resistivities. These structures include pipelines, underground tanks, external tank bases, and other similar objects.
Magnesium alloyed anodes have been specifically engineered for buried applications. Their high driving voltage characteristics make them particularly suitable for structures that are buried in soil with resistivities exceeding 2,000 ohm-cm.
Furthermore, the efficiency of these anodes is significantly improved by the use of a specially designed backfill in which they are pre-packaged. This unique backfill serves to decrease the anode-to-soil resistance, thereby facilitating easier current flow to the intended structure.
Environment-friendly Backfill
The added backfill helps to decrease the electrical resistance of the anode to the ground as well as retain moisture which allows for better efficiency and homogeneous consumption of the anode, thus creating an efficient anode bed. Our backfill is prepared with naturally degradable and recyclable materials in the following weight ratio*:

Easy Installation
The prepackaged magnesium anode is appropriate for direct burial. This simplifies the on-site construction process, as some processes which traditionally took place on site (such as backfilling) are carried out in the factory prior to delivery, making for a convenient and fast installation. This helps to ensure the construction and installation quality of the anode ground bed remain consistent.
Multiple Cable Options
Our standard lead cable is 10ft. AWG #12 Solid THHN/THWN. Other options include PVC/PVC, XLPE/PVC, HMWPE or TW, which can be supplied in custom sizes, lengths and colors upon request. The cable can be connected by direct brazing, mechanical fastening or welding to ensure high pull strength and low connection resistance.
